Helping Employers meet their legal requirements with Health & Safety.  Why does my business need health and safety management systems?

If it is a UK company employing 5 or more people then yes, you are legally required to maintain the following:
A health and safety policy
Ensure your employees receive adequate health and safety training
Risk assessments detailing the significant potential hazards in your workplace which includes Covid-19 Risk Assessments
Access to competent health and safety advice
Pulling all of this together into a formal management system is highly recommended. Ensuring you have robust systems in place that are applicable to your business and consistently implemented across your business is an important part of preventing injury and illness.

With businesses having to adapt to the challenges presented by Covid-19 it is essential that businesses processes reflect the needs of a changing business and with much more working remotely this is more important than ever.

ISO 45001

ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System provides an internationally recognised framework to deliver this. Meeting this standard will help your business ensure the Health and Safety of your employees and others who may be affected by your operations. It also provides evidence that you are doing so which is an attraction for many clients who seek reassurance that companies they engage with take Health and Safety seriously.

These systems are there to protect both your people and your business. They are not paperwork for paperwork’s sake.

Not just Health and Safety

We have more than 20 years' experience in developing Quality and Environmental management systems. Using this experience, we aim to make gaining certification as simple as possible.

ISO 9001 — Quality management systems

Operating an ISO 9001 certified quality management system has been proven to help business operate an efficient, streamlined set of processes that drive efficiency, customer satisfaction and business performance ensuring consistency and reliability in the products or services you deliver. In short, this is attractive to customers who want confidence that they will get a high quality product or service.

ISO 14001 — Environmental management

ISO 14001 specifies the ways in which your business can become more sustainable and environmentally friendly, considerations of ever-growing importance to the public and clients alike.

Other Certification Schemes - Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP)

Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) is a mutual recognition scheme for occupational health and safety standards, particularly relating to construction projects. The idea behind SSIP is that if you achieve compliance with one SSIP member scheme, you can use this to gain compliance with others without having to undergo multiple assessments. This reduces bureaucracy (as well as cost!) within the supply chain.

However, you still need to go through the assessment process to join your first SSIP-approved scheme, which requires you to demonstrate that you satisfy SSIP’s Core Criteria.

And that is where we come in! We can help simplify the accreditation process for the following schemes:

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS)

CHAS operate one of the most renowned health and safety accreditation schemes, allowing contractors to quickly and easily demonstrate that they meet their health and safety obligations. CHAS accreditation is often a pre-requisite for working on large projects involving Local Authorities, hospitals and schools.

Safety Management Advisory Services (SMAS) Worksafe

SMAS Worksafe is a widely recognised way of demonstrating your health and safety compliance to potential clients. To become a SMAS Worksafe member your health & safety policies will be assessed, alongside your provision of training and information. We will help guide you through the process to make joining this SSIP-approved scheme as easy as possible.

SafeContractor

SafeContractor accreditation is similar to CHAS yet requires slightly different criteria and evidence in order to gain accreditation. We will assist you going through the process and plugging any gaps in your systems along the way.

Build UK Common Assessment Standard

JM HSE Solutions can also help your company achieve compliance with the new Build UK Common Assessment Standard for supply chain companies in the construction industry. Compliance can give your company an advantage over your competitors when dealing with major UK contractors. Further details of the new standard can be found at builduk.org

What our clients think about us

★★★★★
I am pleased to confirm that over the past 12 months, James worked with us to develop an ISO
45001 compliant safety management system.
His attitude, approach and subject knowledge was invaluable in helping us to develop a system for
both our Irish and UK businesses to achieve the accreditation.
In that time, he has also worked with us on site audits and his involvement with our site teams has
always been supportive, personable and practical.
I have no hesitation in recommending James to any business looking to develop their management
systems or in supporting their on‐site functions.
Yours sincerely,
